Lagos hosts West African bloggers

Bloggers operating in West Africa will meet in Lagos on May 15 and 16, 2015 to examine how they can turn their passion into profitable business ventures.
Organiser of the event and Managing Director of Advert Striker Limited, Ayo Oyebade, says the two-day conference will expose participants to enormous wealth-creating opportunities in the emerging social media and online publishing.
Oyebade points out that there are enormous opportunities bloggers can leverage to create wealth and build profitable businesses, but that many operators lack relevant skills to harness them. He says the conference will focus on impacting on bloggers the skills they need to excel.
Oyebade says the conference will feature special symposia, tutorials, business programming, networking and technical sessions. According to him, there will also be technical sections and exhibitions highlighting digital applications and market-ready technologies in online publishing.
“The goal is to expose bloggers and social media influencers to the principles of turning part-time blogging to a well-structured and profitable business model. The vision is to see over 50 per cent of participants make a turnover of, at least, N3m each by December 2015,” Oyebade states
While a few local bloggers have been able to develop their passion beyond mere online posting and have started earning a living from it, several others do not have idea about the entrepreneurial potential of online media. Oyebade says the event – tagged the West Africa Bloggers Conference – will benefit both groups.
Even the most successful bloggers, he stresses, will gain new insights on emerging trends, just as the programme will also give them an opportunity to network with other successful colleagues.
The conference is being facilitated by both local and foreign experts. Oyebade says the speakers are carefully selected to cover different aspects of online publishing.
Alaezi Akpuru, style consultant, Jumia Nigeria, is among the facilitators. Akpuru wrote for several blogs before joining Jumia.
She will be joined by Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Google Nigeria, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, and several other experts.
